Alun Bollinger is a well-known New Zealand director of photography.

He is recognised world wide for his innovative style and flawless technical ability. Alun’s extensive career began when he was accepted for a job with the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation at the age of 18. As a cine-camera man he shot news, current affairs and documentaries.

“The second bit of film I ever put through the camera went to air – news footage of the Wellington motorway under construction. I’d been on the job two weeks.”

He has worked with many of Aotearoa’s foremost film makers on projects as various and illustrious as The Piano (Jane Campion), Vigil and River Queen (Vincent Ward), Heavenly Creatures and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Peter Jackson), Came A Hot Friday (Ian Mune) and Goodbye Pork Pie (Geoff Murphy).

Bollinger is a member of the New Zealand Film and Television School Trust, conducts occasional master-classes and gives lectures at film schools, and has been the national president of the New Zealand Film and Video Technicians Guild. In 2006 Alun received an Arts Foundation of New Zealand Laureate award.
