We are pleased to present a new exhibition by Gary McMillan that shares filmic attributes with the eponymous New Zealand film. The paintings depict the artist's Auckland environment, and evoke the uncanny ambience found in Geoff Murphy’s The Quiet Earth (1985). The meticulous nature of McMillan’s painting technique encourages a slowing down of the viewer’s gaze, to explore the detail within the scene, and to imagine what might have recently occurred, or is just about to happen.
