"Casting is everything. If you get the right people they make you look good." - Tod Solondz
Everyone knows if you get the cast wrong you're screwed. But how do you get it right?
Following the hit Auckland Writer's Room, Script to Screen presents this Screen Discussion with casting directors Tina Cleary (Boy, Top of the Lake, Emperor (NZ)) and Miranda Rivers (The Hobbit, Avatar (NZ), Home by Christmas).
Using specific examples, Tina and Miranda talk to director Stuart McKenzie about their casting process and philosophy: from script analysis, auditions, and casting non-actors & children through to the casting director's relationships with the director and producer.
This session is designed for writers, directors, producers and actors.
Come along for the final Screen Discussion of 2012 and stay afterward for a slice of pizza on us and a drink. Drinks 5:30, 6pm start, Wednesday 21st November, The Film Archive, 88 Taranaki Street, Wellington, $5 koha appreciated.
"It's a risk casting anyone against type or what they're known to do. But there's one thing better than having a great actor, which is having a great actor who's never done what you're asking him to do. He's hungry to get out of the trailer every day and hungry to test himself." - Sam Mendes
The Screen Discussion Series is held in Wellington at the Film Archive on the third Wednesday of the month. Come along to hear from a range of screen organisations and practitioners and to continue the conversation with a drink after the event.
