Mad Pride (New Zealand, 60mins, 2012)
Directed by Rod Prosser
A thought-provoking and entertaining depiction of the work of a group of Wellington Mad Pride activists.
The one-hour documentary is a smattering of workshops, interviews, comedy, poems and music organised and performed by tangata whai ora (people seeking wellness) - some famous, some “unknown”. The main character is Arana Pearson, educator, musician and “mental health consumer”. It follows him as he organises New Zealand’s contribution to a new international human rights movement, which draws it’s inspiration from the Black Pride and Gay Pride movements before it.
