Exciting Developments in Archive Education Programmes
9 August, 2006
The Film Archive and the Ministry of Education are in the final stages of negotiating a long-term contract which will take the Archive’s Education Programme to an exciting new level.
As part of an industry wide shift to digital formats, the Archive Education team have spent 2006 overhauling the ON TAPE secondary schools lending library.
Thirty two titles from the original ON TAPE selection were chosen for transfer to
ON DISK chaptered, multi-menu DVD curriculum-specific packages. While the original video titles comprised a total of 26 hours of purpose-edited footage, clips in the newly researched and formatted selection totals almost three times that. As a result many of the redeveloped packages required more than one disk to accommodate the variety of relevant clips.
The new ON DISK service will be completely free of charge, and when ordering online teachers can expect discs to arrive anywhere in New Zealand within 48 hours.
ON DISK programmes are available in English, Media Studies, History, Geography, Social Studies and Art and Art History. The new subject menus will be posted online on August 16.
On Disk will be officially opened by the Honourable Steve Maharey, Minister of Education on Tuesday August 15 at the Film Archive.
