Wi Kuki Kaa, veteran of the film industry and long time supporter of the Film Archive passed away on Sunday 19 February.

Wi Kuki shared his knowledge, experience and skills in the film and theatre industry unstintingly with the Film Archive as an advisor, Trustee and Convocation member. Over the years Wi Kuki travelled extensively with Film Archive staff and programmes throughout the country and to a number of international film festivals.

Best known for his roles in feature films such as Utu (1983), Ngati (1987), Te Rua (1991) and most recently, River Queen (2006), Wi Kuki also starred in many short films including Thunderbox (1989), Te Po Uriuri (2001), and Turangawaewae (2003). He is remembered for his roles in television series such as Te Kai A Te Rangatira. These films form part of the extraordinary legacy that Wi Kuki has gifted us with – interlaced with all his wit, intelligence, passion and commitment.
