- New Zealand Community Trust mediatheatre, Wellington
The Matariki screening programme for 2009 is a diverse collection of excerpts from the early 1900s to the 1960s that show everyday life in the communities, marae and Pa throughout Aotearoa.
The material includes images of activities such as string, hand and stick games. The preparation of kai from planting and harvesting to the hakari. Pohiri, waiata, poi and haka performance including songs by the Maori Battalion. The screening will also include arts and craft, preparation of harakeke and muka for weaving. Methods and techniques of building, setting eel traps and fishing. Waka building, waka hurdles and races.
This year our kaupapa for the Matariki screening is to depict and contextualise everyday life within the Maori communities around Aotearoa.
