NZ Feature Project

The New Zealand Feature Project began in May 2004 when the mediaplex opened on the ground floor of the Film Archive.

The aim of the project is to screen every single surviving New Zealand feature film at least one time.

Education Programmes

On Disk 

Special announcement: On Wednesday 14 May we will be launching the latest On Disk programme at the Film Archive.This special curriculum-based geography programme, based on the physical and social aspects of Wellington, contains 8-hours of footage and full teaching notes.

Working with the Ministry of Education and teachers, the Archive produces the On Disk library for secondary school use. On Disk is designed for the secondary school curriculum. Completely free of charge, order online and On Disk will arrive at any NZ school within 48 hours.

For teachers looking for interesting excursions outside the classroom, we also offer a range of screening programmes onsite and regularly welcome school groups to the Archive’s cinema in Wellington.

The Film Archive collections number over 110,000 titles and cover every genre.

Overwhelming and sometimes hard to know where to begin Catalogue Plus! provides specially themed searches to help you get started.

From the film works of composer Douglas Lilburn to the Royal Visit of 1953-54, and home movie footage of Christmas’ past, each of these sets are media rich with still images and video excerpts.

Designed to help you explore the collection, each set demonstrates different ways of searching the catalogue.
