NZ Feature Project

The New Zealand Feature Project began in May 2004 when the mediaplex opened on the ground floor of the Film Archive. The aim of the project is to screen every single surviving New Zealand feature film at least one time.

Rather than starting with My Lady of the Cave, our earliest surviving feature (1922) and working forward chronologically, or even running alphabetically from A Soldier’s Tale to Zilch, mini seasons have been curated by invited guests and staff to present the huge range and breadth of features held by the Archive.

This filmography is sourced from our weekly screening programmes. "Lost films" are the only exception. Their information is included but we are unfortunately unable to screen them.

Use our online catalogue to search for more New Zealand films.

If a particular film you are looking for is not listed, check back. Or email and let us know which titles you are interested in.

Bonjour Timothy

Bonjour Timothy

A comedy about Timothy, a teenager who falls head over heels for the pretty French-Canadian exchange student his family is hosting. Unfortunately, his attentions are not reciprocated.

Rewi's Last Stand

Rewi's Last Stand

It is more important that New Zealanders should have produced this film than that they should see one hundred films from Hollywood... I am surprised how near to producing a Cecil B. de Mille spectacle Mr Hayward has come.
