Activities
This lesson will help students to begin the process of synthesizing the messages the audience is being given about women in New Zealand through the texts.
Handout pre prepared A3 strips of paper plus one whole A3 and big markers. Ask students in pairs or threes to write one main message and representation they found interesting after watching the three documentary excerpts. Give them about ten minutes for this. Collect those in and blue tack them to the white board. Ask each group to choose one message and one representation and write onto either side of the A3 paper, they don’t need to choose their own. Brainstorm what they think might be some of the consequences of having a message like this being broadcast so widely. Think about the influence on the audience. This should take about twenty minutes.
Feedback from groups for each message onto the board and copy into books.
Use any of the comments as a basis for discussion if there is time left over.
