  1. Write in definitions of these words: Assimilation, Integration, Bi-culturalism. Discuss. Which word best suits the New Zealand situation today? Why? (See Key Terminology)

  2. View footage: “Maori”: The Maori Today. Note the way Maori are portrayed here.

  3. Questions: Which definition best suits the description of Maori life in this clip? Why could this be seen as a “romantic” view of Maori/ Pakeha relations? What jobs are most Maori “meant” to be doing? Is there anything wrong with that? What is the role of Maori women and girls? Lots of discussion points here.
