Teaching / Learning Sequence
- Present your H/W item, and/or note: what is special about this person or group? What aspects of their image make them appealing? What makes them the same or different from other people in the world in similar roles?
- View footage: “Pop Culture”: Ray Columbus, Chicks, Lee Grant, The Yeomen, Lew Pryme, “Runaway” trailer.
- Discuss and note the common aspects of “young” people’s culture displayed here. Note could be a “continuum”, ranking the bands/ people from “most rebellious” to “least” (i.e. Yeomen at one end, Lew Pryme at the other).
- Compare and contrast the 1960s icons to the person or group gathered for H/W at the beginning. Who is more rebellious?
- What aspects of the young people and/ or culture represented in the 1960s are still in today’s culture? (i.e. music, cars, friends, romantic movies)
