Describe the main events and experiences of people in 1960s New Zealand

Teaching / Learning Sequence

  1. Start with a brainstorm/ prior knowledge activity, about the 1960s in general, and New Zealand in the 1960s

  2. Outline and explain focusing questions. Students note these into their books. Explain that these are the questions they must aim to answer by the end of the unit.

  3. View footage: “Significant Events”: Enduring Land. Students create a mind map of the significant events in NZ history mentioned in the documentary.

  4. Compare this new knowledge to their brainstorm. What new things have they discovered?
