Teaching/Learning Sequence
1.Use the Information on Chinese in New Zealand from the Te Ara Website.
Students are to look through the information on the website and write 20 questions.
They also write up the answers to the questions on a separate piece of paper.
They swap their questions with someone else who tries to find the answers on the Te Ara Website.

3. Discussion questions:
What were the 3 objectives of the government immigration policy?
What were the 3 main areas of the points immigration system?
How did the Chinese cope in New Zealand?
What is the work to residency scheme? Is this is a good or bad idea? Why?
What could New Zealanders do to help the Chinese fit into New Zealand culture?
What influences have Chinese had on New Zealand? (think of food, festivals etc)
Specific Learning Outcomes
Explain why the Chinese came to New Zealand, how they coped and what influences they have had on our society.
