Learning intentions students are learning to…

  • Locate and label 4 mountains/mountain ranges in New Zealand and provide a brief summary of activities and facilities available in those areas.

Success criteria (How do students know they have achieved success?)

  • Students are able to clearly locate and label 4 Mountains/Mountain Ranges.
  • Students are able to describe key geographical features (activities and facilities) of four mountains and mountain ranges both in the North and South Islands.

Activities

  • Students will each receive an Atlas, and a blank map of New Zealand.
  • Students will be provided with a list of 4 Mountains/ Mountain Ranges.
  • Students will locate and label those 4 Mountains/ Mountain Ranges on their blank map of New Zealand, assisted by their atlas.
  • Students will view the above film footage.
  • Students will complete the geographical features (activities and facilities) of four mountains and mountain ranges in the North and South Island
  • Compare this new knowledge to their prior knowledge of New Zealand. What new things have they discovered?
