Success criteria (How do students know they have achieved success?)

  • Students are able to clearly communicate geographical ideas in an organised and coherent manner by comparing and contrasting Auckland – Urban Settlement, with their overseas urban settlement.

Activities

  • Students will re-cap previous lesson work.
  • Teacher will provide example of the overseas urban settlement (for example, Singapore, New York City, or London).
  • Students will use maps of Auckland, and their overseas urban settlement to identify social, economic, structural patterns of both urban settlements. Refer to Lesson 6 for Auckland patterns.
  • Compare and contrast the maps. This should comprise of a Chart note by dividing a students page/A3 paper in half, i.e. “Auckland/Overseas Urban Settlement”. The chart should be divided into social, economic, structural patterns.
  • Compare the chart. What new things have they discovered?
