Activities

  • Students will re-cap previous lesson work.
  • Discuss and define the key words: Urban, Settlement, Hinterland, and Interact.
  • View Footage: “Super Region Proposed”
  • Students to answer the following question: “What effect would a Auckland Super Region have on Auckland, and the rest of New Zealand?’
  • Class Discussion: Is New Zealand Auckland’s hinterland? Students to write down their responses.
  • View Footage: “JAFAs”
  • Does the above clip give us a better idea of Auckland’s role in New Zealand? How does it compare to your view or classmate?
  • Students to glue in New Zealand Map, label on the map the following: Christchurch, Hamilton, Wellington, Dunedin.
  • Students to glue in ‘Summary of Hinterland Zones’ handout
  • Students to glue in Auckland Map, label the places mentioned in the ‘Summary of Hinterland Zones’.
  • Students to glue in ‘Focusing Question 2 notes’ handout.
  • Compare this new knowledge to their prior knowledge. What new things have they discovered?
