Reggae fans will be excited to know the Film Archive is hosting the
Australasian premier of the 2007 documentary Musically Mad on Thursday
7 August at 7pm.
Directed by Karl Folke and produced by Andreas Weslien in the UK earlier this year the film shines a light on UK sound-system culture by getting inside the heads and hearts of singers and sound-men of the UK roots reggae scene.
Following a culture brought to the UK by Caribbean immigrants and one which continues to provide uplifting messages to people in the face of hardship, reggae music strives to foster community, cultural unification and pride.
The film includes interviews and footage of some of the key players of the scene, including Iration Steppas, I Natural, Dougie Conscious Sounds, DJ Stryda, King Shiloh, Afrikan Simba, Channel One, Fatman Sound, Young Warrior, Joe Ariwa, Mad Professor, Levi Roots and many more.
The screening of Musically Mad will be preceded by Bristol Vibes from the UK Channel 4 Black Track series and guest speakers Ingrid Leary (British Council director) and DJ Danny Lemon (Roots Foundation)
Tickets: $8/6 concession.
Pre-sales available from Monday 4 August
