Daniel Belton Film Wins Major Prize in Prestigious Italian Videodance Festival
Dunedin-based chereographer, dancer and dance film maker Daniel Belton
has just been awarded an esteemed prize for most innovative work at the
XV Festival Internazionale di Videodanza Madre Museum, via L.
Settembrini, Napoli, Italy.
The 15th edition of the Festival has been concluded with more than 120
works submitted from many nations in the world, including Italy,
France, Germany, Spain, The Netherlands, Portugal, Austria, Croatia,
Slovenia, Finland, Greece, Belgium, Great Britain, Switzerland, Turkey,
Poland, Hungary, Israel, U.S.A., Australia, New Zealand, Argentina,
Canada,
Chile, Venezuela, India, South Korea, Japan.
Belton's dance work After Durer (New Zealand, 2007) was directed by
Daniel Belton, with choreography by Daniel and Peter Belton, Donnine
Harrison and Martin Lodge, a Good Company Arts production.
The members of jury were Ada d'Adamo, Diana Gianquitto, Anna Redi, Bruno Roberti who had this to say about Belton's work: "Through an elegant and strict visual figure - characterized by a
suggestive post-modern mentionism - this work, which is a cooperation
of professionalities of various milieu, such as digital graphic, music,
art, math, dance, etc. finds one of the most interesting tendences of
videodance, that one which doesn't limit research to choreographic and
movie aspects, but extends to optical-visual and perceptive level,
fully showing that videodance belongs to videoart's sphere". - Festival Jury
Other major winners were Wim Vandekeybus, Belgium; Karsten Liske,
Germany; Sophie Fiennes, Belgium and Daniel Belton, New Zealand.
A series of Belton's dance films and video will be screening at the
