In celebration of New Zealand Music Month the New Zealand Film Archive presents From C'Mon to Shazam - Four Decades of New Zealand Music Television Shows from the 1960s to the 1990s.
Week 2 from Monday 12 May to Saturday 17 May, focuses on the 1970s with a variety of programmes from Ready to Roll to Grunt Machine and performances by the Suburban Reptiles, Sharon O’Neill and the Rodger Fox Big Band. A highlight of the programme is Pacific Films programme The Unbelievable Glory of the Human Voice. Produced for the NZBC series Survey, this historical account of singing looks at many different musical genres from opera to 1970s folk singers and a remarkable psychedelic collage tracing popular music from Elvis Presley to Joe Cocker.
Week 3 begins on Monday 19 May looks at the 1980s and features Dunedin Sound, reggae, heavy metal and the 1983 Shazam Battle of the Bnads.
The programmes are screening in the Archive’s TV Lounge, Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm and Saturday from 4pm. Admission is free.
