Land Wars: Build

Tuesday, 06 May 2008

Land Wars is a major project held at Te Tuhi Centre for the Arts in 2008 over several platforms.

Build, the second stage of Land Wars, is an exhibition exploring development, gentrification and squatting politics, urban sprawl and the tension between civic, commercial and personal interests. Including both local and international artists, Land War: Build takes the contemporary New Zealand situation as a starting point. Does the demise of the quarter acre section really threaten the Kiwi psyche? Who owns the beaches? What is a sustainable city? How and where do we want to live?

In association with Land Wars: Build  films will be made available for viewing throughout the duration of the exhibition at the Film Archive's Auckland office. Selected to compliment the exhibition, the videos range over many television and film genres, covering Auckland’s progress and expansion, social history, land use and development from the 1950s to the present day. Viewing is free.

Land Wars: Build is on at Te Tuhi Centre for the Arts 14 June to 5 July 2008, the film programme will be screening at the Auckland office of the Film Archive at 300 K'Rd throughout this time. Read more about the film programme .
