Malcontent, the exhibition by musician turned visual artist Greg Malcolm has been extended by another week until December 1st.
Absurd, comic and bulging at the seams with tv screens and supermarket suggestion forms the exhibition chronicles Malcolm's musical travels.
Featuring material shot in New Zealand and during his overseas tours Malcolm discovers both the exotic and the mundane. On the Canterbury peninsula he hangs from a giant pair of steel doors which he swings in and out to create an ethereal call and response of groaning metal. In another work he films himself smiling in front of over 25 European McDonald's restaurants, who despite their exotic locations (Venice, Berlin, etc) remain depressingly similar.
In an effort to engage with his audiences over the past 17 years Malcolm handed out hundreds of supermarket suggestion forms, asking questions such as ‘what did you like?’ and ‘how could we improve?’ 200 of the resulting answers fill the gallery.
The next exhibition opening on December 6th is Merry Christmas 1981, a film work by Ronnie van Hout.
