Heavenly Creatures (1994)

Heavenly Creatures was based on the true story of Pauline
Parker and Juliet Hulme, who murdered Parkers mother in Victoria
Park, Christchurch in 1954. The film explores the girls friendship,
which grew to include their own religion, a mythical kingdom and
a love of Mario Lanza. Winner of The Silver Lion at the 1994 Venice
Film Festival, Heavenly Creatures was also nominated for
an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
OMC How Bizarre! (1994)

Image features Pauly Fuemana and cast of the music video for the
hiphop single How Bizarre!. Fuemana, of Māori and
Nuiean ancestry, produced a unique sound which earned him recognition
far beyond the South Pacific. The single was No. 1 in New Zealand
for three weeks in 1996, and No. 1 in Australia for five weeks.
It later reached No. 1 in Canada, No. 5 in the UK and was included
in the soundtrack of the movie Bean (1997). The debut album
How Bizarre was released in 1997.
Children of the Sun (c.1970)

Children of the Sun is a documentary celebrating surfing
and surf culture in New Zealand and Australia. Locations include
Piha, Marsden Point, Mangamaunu (Kaikoura Coast), Gisborne, Whangamata,
Eagle Palm (Brisbane) and Noosa Headlands. The film features board
action from Wayne Parks, Mike Tinkler, John Catherly, Steve King,
Roger Linden, Frank Catherly, Alan Burn, plus Australias Russell
Hughes and Laurie Fineger and George Greenhaugh from California.

This image of 18 month old Linda was used to promote the Film Archive
exhibition Tiki Touring/Tipi Haere, (summer 1998-99). The
exhibition explored the endless days of summer through the eyes
of amateur and professional filmmakers. With images of paddling
pools, sunbathing and days at the beach, Tiki Touring/Tipi Haere
was a celebration of sunshine and summer culture.

The image shows the ferry Muritai, which transported passengers
across the harbour between downtown Wellington and Day's Bay, Eastbourne.
Shot in 1930 on nitrate film, this publicity film celebrates Wellington
harbour and the holiday fun to be enjoyed across the harbour at
Eastbourne. There the passengers swam, boated and promenaded before
returning home on the ferry.
The Price of Milk (2001)

Image features Danielle Cormack as Lucinda, the heroine of Harry
Sinclairs second feature. The film is a fairy tale about Lucinda
and Rob (Karl Urban), who live an idyllic rural life with 117 cowsand
what happens when Lucinda decides to find out what comes after happily
ever after. Sinclair described this film as his dream of New
Zealand: this make-believe country that seems almost empty
of people, where love stories are played out in silence and loneliness.
