Welcome
The Film Archive is the home of New Zealand’s moving image history with over 150,000 titles spanning feature films, documentaries, short films, home movies, newsreels, TV programmes and advertisements.
With a comfy cafe, gallery, cinema and media library boasting thousands of kiwi classics, searchable online catalogue and personal viewing areas, our central Wellington home is a great place to lose yourself for a few hours - or a few weeks.
We also have a gallery and library in Auckland, a travelling film show, an expanding network of partner sites at galleries, libraries and museums around New Zealand and a whole lot online, right here.
